On the defensive side, the biggest improvement is in the form of a revamped shoot blocking technique. I've have always felt that blocking in earlier NBA 2K titles felt lifeless and was ultimately a matter of chance.

Due to improved animations as well as more fluidity and movement, blocks now feel precise and powerful, lending some much needed toughness to the game's great centres, that I believe had never been properly portrayed as a threat before.

Have a go with Wilt Chamberlain's Lakers or Bill Russell's Celtics and you'll understand the difference. The feeling of accuracy and realistic also applies to mid-air battles, since players on the ground feel more natural when they move.

Highlight reels in earlier games were often tarnished or completely destroyed by wonky animations that left my giants looking like frozen machines in the air. In NBA 2K22 players can reach, swat, and guard in a way that just feels more natural and therefore effective in the majority of defensive plays and situations.

NBA 2K22's modes remain largely unchanged from last year's version but that's not necessarily negative as many of the modes were added to NBA 2K21's newer versions. In addition to MyCareer, MyTeam and MyNBA modes, the W is back, with the standalone career mode, which is built on the WNBA.
