These are the mainstay of treatment for excessive daytime sleepiness:
Modafinil (Provigil) or Armodafinil (Nuvigil):
First-line medications for promoting wakefulness.
Fewer side effects compared to older stimulants like amphetamines.
Do not tend to cause dependence.
Solriamfetol (Sunosi):
Targets both dopamine and norepinephrine systems to improve wakefulness.
Pitolisant (Wakix):
A histamine receptor agonist that promotes wakefulness and may also help with cataplexy.
